Listening Like a Coach for Creative and Design Leaders
Listening Like a Coach for Creative and Design Leaders workshop/class is based on a talk I gave last summer at Developer First's Tech Leadership Conference. That event was one of the first I noticed quickly pivot from being a live in person event to being fully virtual.
Here we are months later. I've been exploring new workshop ideas and considered different ways to develop that talk into a more UX focused workshop. At its heart, this material is laser focused so that's the approach that I went with.
The Focused Premise
Listening works in a few different ways and listening like a coach is specific incredibly useful thing. You can learn a bit about open questions, listening, and the flow of coaching and it can help you as a leader. Listening like a coach helps you be a more skillful creative and design leader because you help others navigate problems in their projects and career.
Developing the Workshop
I expanded the original talk and added new practical ways to connect with the learning through two brief practice projects. Project 1 is a journal self interview where you look back at your experiences with listening. Project 2 is about observing a real pre-recorded coaching session using what you've learned in the class to take note of things you see working and new things you'd like to try.
It's Published!
Publishing a product is always a big strange feeling. Moments ago I had this thing I was making that can help folks learn and it was in my lab being refined, edited, expanded. It was on my desk and in my mind. Now it's out. That change is so wild to feel.
I made this for you, Listening Like a Coach for Creative and Design Leaders is now on Skillshare.
