Journaling About Creativity, Design, and Collaboration: 13. Warm Up
Continuing this series, where I share one page and transcription of a handwritten journal entry.
Warm Up
Thresholds and transitions are
a useful framing to recognize, theme,
and celebrate change.
You could be changing tools, topics,
stages of creative progression, life roles,
projects, or going from low energy to
high energy activity.
Get moving, trust, shake the
Rust of Reluctance.
Take a low risk creative action now
to be ready to meet and manage bigger
creative risks to come.
Brief reaction to transcribing this page.
Warming up works as an individual and with groups who are about to work together.
Rust of Reluctance hits home as a phrase. I may be highly practiced at jumping in, getting started, but reluctance can get you at any stage. Doesn't have to be at the start, it can creep up way later in a project.
All these ideas about creativity and collaboration need context too. Understanding the spirit of encouragement and flexibility that should you find these ideas appealing that putting them to use for you and who you are working with means interpreting and finding your own way. It's philosophy with an eye toward being useful which leaves much to consider and apply. If it were pure procedure that has a use too, but different than what's driving these journal pages.
