When you're sketching design ideas or stories you'll need to show people in situations reacting to one another and living in a particular moment.
Rendering characters in a detailed style is a super useful skill but not always the right tool at the right time. Details and concrete accuracy are problems to solve later if you need.
To get started you need to capture and communicate ideas. Stick figures, star people, and rough gesture sketches are fast options and each has a trade off about capturing clearly and fast in the same way H-Ball characters can communicate. Emotion, activities, expressive faces, posture for one or a whole scene full of characters, that's what H-Ball people do well.
